THE HEALTH STORE DONATES £1000 TO THE HFMA FIGHTING FUNDThe Health Store, the co-operative wholly owned by independent health food retailers, has donated £1000 to the HFMA fighting fund to support the campaign to secure major changes to the Food Supplements Directive and to assist in funding the legal challenge to its legality and proportionality. The company is concerned that the direction many EU directives are taking will actually reduce consumers’ choice, endanger thousands of jobs and stifle product innovation.
Local Nottingham MP Alan Simpson also supports The Health Store in its fight against EU Directives on food supplements and herbal remedies.
The Health Store employs 85 staff in Nottingham and supplies over 400 independent health food retailers nation wide. The co-op and its retailers represent in excess of £170 million in retail sales.
Graeme Gunn, Managing Director of The Health Store said “although we strongly support safety levels on VMS and believe that some regulation is necessary, we cannot let our market being controlled by regulations enforced by countries in Europe who have strong pharmaceutical restrictive practices.” |
